Bale Worth ‘As Much As Neymar’
The agent of Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale claims the Wales international is worth as much as the €222million Paris Saint-Germain paid for Neymar.
Bale has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu this summer. Manchester United were keeping tabs on his situation although Jose Mourinho now insists that there will be no move now the Red Devils have signed Alexis Sanchez. United tried to sign Bale from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 for what would have been a world-record fee of £100million. But speaking to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Jonathan Barnett claimed the 28-year-old isn’t looking for a move.
“He is worth at least [€] 222 million, like Neymar, but Gareth is very happy at Real Madrid, he loves Madrid,” said Barnett.
“Gareth does not need Cristiano Ronaldo to leave the team, even now he is a star at Real Madrid.”
Bale’s signing was instigated by Real club president Florentino Perez whose faith in the player is one of the reasons Real look set to continue with him.
“I remember the pen that Florentino Perez gave to me – a great gentleman – I always carry it with me,” said Barnett. “But what counts most is the excellent relationship with Florentino.”
Barnett revealed that the Welshman received an offer from a Serie A club when he was with Tottenham, but he ruled out the prospect of a move to Italy.
“He’s happy in Madrid. Everything can change fast in football, you never know, but I honestly believe that no Italian club can buy Bale.”
Bale has scored nine goals in 20 appearances for Real Madrid in a campaign that was almost derailed by injury. But five of those goals have come in his last seven appearances in all competitions for the La Liga side.
