Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal All Linked
Five Premier League clubs are being linked with moves for Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri. Chelsea are the latest club said to be interested in the 26-year-old Ivorian who was linked last summer with Arsenal.
But Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United are also believed to be interested while reports from France claim Seri is a target for Paris Saint-Germain.
Seri has sent scouts scuttling to the south of France to watch him in action for Nice. City and Liverpool both watched him in action last month.
A move to Barcelona looked set to take place last summer. The Catalan side matched Nice’s asking price of €40million (£35million) towards the end of August, but Nice president Jean-Pierre Riviere suddenly demanded an additional €10million, much to Seri’s annoyance.
“I blew my top,” Seri said in December. “I went to the club offices for an explanation. They had promised me one thing and finally, they asked for more for me.”
He added: “But I also remember that Roma made several interesting offers for me and that Monchi broke off the negotiations with Nice because he could not take it any more.”
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is being linked with Seri after doubts arose over Tiemoue Bakayoko’s performances. United are keen on the Ivory Coast international as the replacement for Michael Carrick who is expected to retire at the end of the season. Liverpool face the prospect of Emre Can leaving and are looking for a replacement. City want a long-term successor to Fernandinho. Arsenal were put off by Seri’s £35million valuation.
But while outlets in France claim Paris Saint-Germain remain interested, Seri is known to be keen on a move to the Premier League. PSG are also under threat from Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations. However, that may be discounted if they sign him after their financial year end on 30 June. In the meantime, they need to offload players before that date.
