Three Plus Sanchez On Manchester United Wishlist
Manchester United have made enquiries over two Premier League strikers and are being linked with another player at an overseas club.
The two names in the frame both come as something of a surprise. One is the Leicester City front-man Jamie Vardy while the other is former United player Javier Hernandez.
United have suddenly found themselves in the market for a striker in what is being seen as an indication that Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s long-term future lies away from the club. The Swede has been sidelined with a knee injury just weeks after his return from a cruciate knee ligament problem that kept him out of action for seven months. Reports earlier this week suggested that the 36-year-old could even leave Old Trafford for China or MLS before his contract ends this summer.
But United’s interest in Jamie Vardy sounds unlikely. The Leicester and England striker turned 31 on Thursday and that alone ought to rule him out of Jose Mourinho’s plans. The United board seldom sign players over the age of 30. Ibrahimovic is held up as a success for the 28 goals he scored last season but that view may be revised if his current season is cut short once again. Bastian Schweinsteiger is regarded as less of a success.
The link with Javier Hernandez is also a puzzle. The Mexico international arrived at West Ham United from Bayer Leverkusen last summer for a fee of £16million. But the 29-year-old has failed to impress manager David Moyes who shunted Hernandez out of Old Trafford during his time as manager there.
Hernandez has scored just four Premier League goals so far this season nand reports earlier this week suggested that the Hammers will part with Hernandez if they get the right offer.
Manchester United are also being linked with Alexis Sanchez though they look set to miss out to Manchester City in the race for the Chilean.
But United are also interested in Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred. The 24-year-old Brazilian is more of an attacking midfielder but he is interesting both United and Manchester City with reports today suggesting United could put in a bid.
