Liverpool have emerged as the bookmakers’ favourites to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.

The news comes amidst rumours that Barcelona’s move for Philippe Coutinho may have ended their interest in Griezmann.

Coutinho moved to the Nou Camp from Liverpool last weekend for an initial fee of £107million plus £35million more in add-ons and bonuses. It remains to be seen whether that deal ends Barca’s interest in Griezmann. The France international has a release clause in his contract with Atletico that will only see him move if the La Liga side receive €100million (£89million).

Reds fans appear to think that any Barcelona move for Griezmann has been shelved – hence a flurry of bets on a Liverpool transfer that bookmakers have reacted to.

But the Frenchman is still a transfer target for the La Liga side although no move will be made until the summer. Griezmann’s release fee only drops from €200million to €100million at the end of the Spanish season before going back up to €200million from 1 July.

Spanish journalist Manu Carreno believes the Coutinho deal hasn’t ended Barca’s interest in Griezmann and that the Frenchman will become one of the club’s highest-paid players if he moves.

“Barcelona’s signings do not end here with Coutinho,” he told Spanish radio network Cadena SER. “The next goal is Antoine Griezmann. If anyone thinks that because they signed the Brazilian they will not try for Griezmann, they are wrong.

“What’s more, at Barça they long for Antoine Griezmann, with whom the talks are already quite advanced. They will offer five seasons and with a salary at the level of Luis Suárez , only surpassed by Leo Messi.”

That would suggest Griezmann will be offered in excess of the £400,000 a week Barca are paying Coutinho. The Brazilian was on around £200,000 a week at Anfield.
