Manchester United, Liverpool In For Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez

But Chilean Still Fancies City Move

Alexis Sanchez Arsenal transfer news

Manchester United and Liverpool are both reported to have joined the race for Arsenal midfielder Alexis Sanchez. United are offering Henrikh Mkhitaryan is part-exchange although some reports claim a cash offer of £25million has been tabled.

The Chile international is out of contract at the end of the season and is already being linked with interest from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola was close to a £60million deal at the end of August only for the transfer to be scuppered when Arsenal failed to sign a replacement. The Gunners had lined up Thomas Lemar of Monaco as his replacement only for the French club to talk him out of leaving. That meant Sanchez had to stay at Arsenal.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca DiMarzio, Jose Mourinho has been in contact with Arsene Wenger to offer a deal whereby Sanchez would move to Manchester United and Mkhitaryan would be on his way to Arsenal. That would be bad news for Inter Milan who are interested in bringing Mkhitaryan to the San Siro.

Chilean journalist Maks Cardenas throws Liverpool in to the mix by suggesting they have also been in contact with Arsenal. The Merseyside club are cash-rich having bagged at least £107million from the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona with a further £35million due in add-ons and bonuses.

But Cardenas believes that Sanchez has his mind set on playing with Guardiola at Manchester City. He played under the Catalan at Barcelona in the 2011-12 campaign. Guardiola sanctioned Sanchez’s signing from Udinese in the summer of 2011.

Reports earlier this week claimed City were ready with a £20million bid. With six months left on his current deal that doesn’t sound like a bad price. But although Arsene Wenger isn’t keen to sell to a rival club at the top end of the Premier League he will be heartened by the presence of three top clubs in the market for Sanchez. That could drive up the price.

Mkhitaryan was bought by United for £26million from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016. Arsene Wenger is known to be an admirer of the Armenian who turns 29 later this month.
