Manchester United To Bid For Hazard?
Manchester United are considering a £90million bid for Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard. The Belgium international looks set to quit Stamford Bridge after turning down a £300,000-a-week deal with the Premier League champions.
Hazard has been linked with Real Madrid for some time. He has commented on a number of occasions about his admiration for the La Liga club and their manager Zinedine Zidane and Real look set to put in a bid of their own.
But The Sun claims Jose Mourinho will also launch a bid. The two men worked together during Mourinho’s second spell at Stamford Bridge and the paper claims the Manchester United boss sees Zidane as the ‘missing piece’ in his Old Trafford jigsaw.
There are two main flaws in the story. First of all, Hazard is only interested in a move to Real Madrid. Paris Saint-Germain are also being linked; however he prefers a move to the Spanish capital rather than the French capital.
There is also the attitude of Chelsea themselves. Club owner Roman Abramovich is unlikely to sell to a rival at the top end of the Premier League.
United rivalled Chelsea for Hazard’s signature back in 2012. But the Belgian chose Stamford Bridge on that occasion and if he leaves Chelsea he now looks set to move abroad.
Manchester United Griezmann Move Back On?
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann may be rekindled by the news that Barcelona have been reported to Fifa over an alleged illegal approach.
Atletico claim that they refused permission for Barca to speak to the France international only for Barca to approach members of his family. Griezmann’s affairs are handled by his family with his sister acting as his agent.
Reports now suggest that Atletico are ready to sell Griezmann to United. Barcelona’s interest and poor form by Griezmann in the early part of this season meant the Premier League side have been looking at other targets.
But Atletico would prefer to sell Griezmann to an overseas club and that means United could be back in with a shout.
Griezmann currently has a €200million (£176million) release clause in a contract with the La Liga club that runs to 2022. That fee drops to €100million (£88million) at the end of the Spanish season before reverting again back to €200million on 1 July 2018.
