Manchester City, Liverpool Watch Midfielder Seri

Nice To Demand £44m?

Jean-Michael Seri Liverpool transfer news

Manchester City and Liverpool are both being linked with Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri.

The Ivory Coast international was a summer target for both Arsenal and Barcelona. But while Arsene Wenger was put off by Nice’s €40million (£35million) price tag, Barca did put in a bid for that amount towards the end of August. The move collapsed when Nice’s president demanded an additional €10million.

Now, the Daily Mail claims both City and Liverpool are keeping tabs on the 26-year-old Seri. Paris Saint-Germain are also keen although whether Barcelona will revive their interest depends on their interest in Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere has garnered a reputation for driving a hard bargain. Shortly after his move to Barca fell through, Seri told a Catalan newspaper reporter about his reaction. However, he said the failure of a move to Barcelona wasn’t the first time a potential move had collapsed because of Nice’s intransigence.

“I blew my top,” said Seri. “I went to the club offices for an explanation. They had promised me one thing and finally, they asked for more for me.”

He added: “But I also remember that Roma made several interesting offers for me and that Monchi broke off the negotiations with Nice because he could not take it any more.”

Seri has been restricted to 10 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season after missing a month of the campaign due to a hamstring injury.
