West Brom Face Battle To Hold On To Arsenal Transfer Target
Arsenal will face competition from Manchester City, West Ham United and Everton for West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans.
The Gunners were linked with Evans towards the end of the summer transfer window with recent reports suggesting that they even put in a bid of £25million for the Northern Ireland international. Arsene Wenger was also interested in Evans during the summer 2016 transfer window.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola offered the Baggies £21million for Evans – as did Leicester City. But reports now suggest the centre-back could be the subject of fresh interest in the January transfer market. West Ham United boss David Moyes wants Evans to shore up his defence and it’s a similar situation at Everton where Sam Allardyce is looking for defensive reinforcements in January.
Whether Arsene Wenger is still interested remains up in the air.
Meanwhile, new West Brom boss Alan Pardew is expected to have talks over a
new deal for the former Manchester United player.
“I think the assurance I need is probably from Jonny more than anybody, and I haven’t met him yet,” Pardew said after he was appointed manager at The Hawthorns last week. “I’m looking forward to seeing him. I think he’s a fabulous player and very important for the club, so I will have a good old discussion with him.”
