Hazard Edging Closer To Chelsea Exit?
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has already spoken to Chelsea forward Eden Hazard about a move to the Bernabeu.
Hazard has long been linked with a move to the La Liga giants and the feeling appears to be mutual. The Belgium international was Zidane’s first transfer target when he took over as head coach. But the feeling was that the side wouldn’t function with both Hazard and Cristiano Ronaldo. The emergence of Isco and Marco Asensio have put Zidane’s aspirations of signing Hazard on the back burner.
But Ronaldo is no longer untouchable in the Real Madrid side and club president Florentino Perez has given Zidane permission to speak to Hazard. According to Diario Gol, the two men have spoken in the past week.
Hazard holds Zidane in similarly high regard. “Everyone knows the respect I have for this gentleman, for the player he was and the coach he is today,” he said last month.
The recruitment of Hazard is being seen as one part of Real’s efforts to replace Ronaldo. The Belgian could arrive in 2018 – Chelsea’s opposition notwithstanding. Real are also being linked with Neymar, but he isn’t expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain before the summer of 2019.
Hazard was reported earlier this week to have put talks over a new Chelsea deal on hold until the summer.
