Gomez, Ranocchia On Brighton Watchlist
Premier League side Brighton are keeping tabs on two Serie A players at the moment. The players in question are midfielder Gustavo Gomez of AC Milan and defender Andrea Ranocchia of Inter.
Scouts from the Amex Stadium were at the Milan-Torino clash the week before last where they were hoping to watch 24-year-old Paraguay international Gomez. Although he didn’t play in that game there were talks between the two clubs.
Milan are keen to sell Gomez in January. He arrived on a free transfer from Argentine side Lanus in the summer of 2016 and made 11 starts and seven substitute appearances for Milan last season, but his only football in the present campaign was a ten-minute substitute appearance in the 5-1 Europa League clash with Austria Vienna the week before last.
Brighton will face competition from Boca Juniors who want to take Gomez back to Argentina. He spent two seasons with Lanus following a free transfer from Libertad in his homeland.
Gomez already holds an EU passport, so there won’t be any problems with him applying a UK work permit.
The Seagulls are also keen on Inter defender Ranocchia. The 29-year-old spent the second half of last season at Hull City where he played in 16 Premier League games. His spell was ultimately unsuccessful with the Tigers suffering relegation at the end of the campaign.
Inter coach Luciano Spalletti could be open to a move for the former Italy international – however, he may need some persuading. Ranocchia has made just two appearances so far this season. Both came in Serie A – one start and one off the bench – and have amounted to just 95 minutes of football.
But those two appearances were made in recent weeks. Ranocchia was impressive in the 5-0 victory over Chievo last weekend and Spalletti may think twice before sanctioning any exit.
