France International Looking For January Move
Arsenal transfer target Steven N’Zonzi is reported to have flown to London for talks over his future.
The Sevilla midfielder had a bust-up with coach Eduardo Berizzo at half-time during the La Liga side’s Champions League clash with Liverpool two weeks ago. Sevilla were 3-0 down at half-time and N’Zonzi was substituted in a move that led him to walk out of the stadium following the interval. The side fought back to force a 3-3 draw.
According to a tweet from the El Partizado programme on Spanish radio network COPE, N’Zonzi has flown to London for talks over his future. It adds that the trip was taken with Sevilla’s permission which suggests his career with the La Liga side is at an end.
The fact he has flown to London does not necessarily suggest an Arsenal transfer is in the offing. There are two other clubs interested in signature, namely Liverpool and Everton. The Toffees appear to be in pole position to pay his £30million release fee and their chairman Bill Kenwright has an office in the capital. Plus N’Zonzi played under new Toffees boss Sam Allardyce when the pair were at Blackburn Rovers.
N’Zonzi turns 29 towards the end of next week and Arsene Wenger may baulk at paying £30million for a player of that age. Everton will also try and get the price down to around €20million (£18million).
If the story is true then it will come as a surprise. Sevilla face Slovenian side Maribor tomorrow night in a game they must win to qualify from their Champions League group. N’Zonzi would normally have expected to join the squad on their flight to central Europe. But he hasn’t played since the bust-up with Berizzo and he was left out of the squad that was announced yesterday.
Sevilla are looking to replace N’Zonzi with 19-year-old Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge who currently plays for Belgian side Genk.
