No Weekend Return For Manchester United Star
Manchester United’s medical staff have advised Jose Mourinho against bringing back Paul Pogba for this weekend’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United.
Pogba hasn’t featured for United since picking up a hamstring injury in the Champions League victory over Basel on 12 September. He returned to training at United’s Carrington training centre before the international break and it was hoped he could feature in Saturday’s clash at Old Trafford. But according to the Daily Telegraph, United boss Jose Mourinho has been warned against bringing Pogba back to soon.
The Frenchman has been running regularly and is training with United’s reserve team. He was in Paris for France’s international friendly with Wales last Friday night when he insisted he would be back in action soon. However, Saturday looks to be a little too soon.
Pogba has missed 12 games for United through his injury lay-off.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are eyeing up a January bid for Valencia’s 20-year-old midfielder Carlos Soler if reports are to be believed. The Independent claims Jose Mourinho has made Soler his principle target for the winter transfer market.
United face the prospect of losing midfielder Marouane Fellaini in January with reports claiming he has already agreed to join Turkish side Besiktas. The Belgium international is out of contract at the end of the season.
Mourinho wanted to sign winger Ivan Perisic during the summer. However, United refused to meet Inter Milan’s £48million asking price.
Any move for Soler in January will go against United’s usual transfer policy. As a rule, the club tend not to buy in the winter market with a lack of value often cited. Certainly, Valencia will put that policy to the test. Soler signed a new contract with the La Liga side last summer that saw his release clause increase to €80million (£71million).
