Manchester United will face competition from Barcelona next summer for Antoine Griezmann. The France international was close to signing for United last summer only for his present club side Atletico Madrid to see their transfer embargo ratified by the Court Of Arbitration For Sport. At that stage, he decided not to move as Atletico couldn’t sign a replacement.

Griezmann then signed a new contract with Atletico that saw his release clause double to €200million (£178million) before dropping back to €100million (£89million) after the transfer window closed in Spain on 1 September.

Reports from Spain now claim that Barcelona will meet that €100million release fee before the clause doubles again to €200million on 1 July.

Barcelona want a deal done before next summer’s World Cup finals. That gives them only a small window of opportunity between the end of Spain’s domestic season in May and the start of the tournament in Russia next June.

Manchester United are still expected to provide competition for Barcelona. The Red Devils know that Griezmann is open to a move to Old Trafford. However, he is also known to be happy in Spain. A move to the Nou Camp may well suit him.

No Manchester United Interest In Bale

Meanwhile, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho isn’t interested in signing Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale.

United have been linked with a move next summer for the Wales international. However, Diario Gol claims that Mourinho has phoned Real president Florentino Perez to inform him that he won’t be making any bid for Bale.

The Welshman has had a bad time with injuries over the past 12 months and his physical fragility has put Mourinho off paying £90-100million for a player who could be out of action for four months of the year. Bale has suffered from a combination of calf and ankle injuries since being carried off in a Champions League match with Sporting Lisbon last year.

Diario Gol believes Bale could end up in the Premier League – but only as a replacement for Harry Kane should Tottenham Hotspur decide to sell.
