Ozil Gets On Arsenal Scoresheet
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hailed Mesut Ozil for his display in the 5-2 victory over Everton on Sunday.
Ozil has been linked with a move away from Arsenal at the end of the season after it was revealed last week that there have been no talks over a new contract since March.
The Germany international was one of five different scorers for the Gunners as Arsenal heaped misery on Everton boss Ronald Koeman. After the match, Wenger said that Ozil had answered his doubters in the only way he could.
“We live in an environment where we have to deal with the news and the players and myself have only always one response, which is what’s happening on the football pitch,” Wenger said.
Ozil’s goal was his first of the season in the Premier League. It comes as the German urged Arsenal fans to ‘ignore the noise’ over his so-called move away from the club.
“When you see Mesut on the football pitch like he is today, enjoying his game like he is today, it’s difficult to believe these kind of things,” Wenger added. “He was superb. Agile, quick, intelligent. Always at the service of the team with his quality of his passing and when he is at that level, he is an exceptional football player.”
Sources close to Ozil claimed over the weekend that he has no offers on the table from any club – including Arsenal. That’s despite being linked with the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona, Fenerbahce and Besiktas. He is free to open talks with overseas clubs from 1 January over a Bosman free transfer.
Wenger also praised another player out of contract next summer, Alexis Sanchez.
“He was on fire.
“I believe that he comes back from injury and has worked very hard, Ozil as well. The two of them were sharp physically, very mobile and if you have their individual quality, that makes them dangerous against any defender.”
