Manchester United could be without Paul Pogba for six weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury in last night’s Champions League win over Swiss side FC Basel.

Pogba limped off after just 19 minutes of the 3-0 victory with Belgium international Marouane Fellaini coming on to replace him. Later, he seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches. The news couldn’t come as a worse time for Jose Mourinho as United face a heavy fixture schedule in the coming weeks. Pogba will undergo tests today to determine the extent of the injury.

Fellaini made his mark heading home Ashley Young’s cross after 35 minutes. Romelu Lukaku scored his sixth goal of the season to make it 2-0 with a close rang shot on 53 minutes and Marcus Rashford wrapped up the points on 84 points, seven minutes after coming on. It was Rashford’s Champions League debut and he has now scored on his first appearances in the Champions League, the Premier League, Europa League, the FA Cup, League Cup and on his international debut for England.

But United boss Jose Mourinho criticised his players after the match accusing them of not being clinical enough.

“We made bad decisions,” said the United boss.

“Fantasy football, Playstation football, tricks – and when you stop to play as a team and when you stop to play seriously, I don’t like and you gamble a little bit.

“Probably the players felt that the game was under control with the 2-0 lead, but football is football and you have to respect your opponent.

“Until 2-0 we played it very stable, with confidence, with patience, with good choices and we played, I’d say, quite well.

“After the 2-0 I think everything changed and we stopped to play, stopped to think and stopped to play seriously.”
