Zidane Taking No Chances With Asensio

Marco Asensio is set to miss Real Madrid’s Champions League opener this evening thanks to an infected pimple. The injury was picked up while shaving his legs on Monday.

“He has a pimple on his leg which means he cannot lift his sock,” coach Zinedine Zidane said.

The pimple caused Asensio some discomfort on Monday and he reported the affliction to club doctors. Tests were carried out and proved that there is no serious illness. However, Zidane employs a zero-risk policy and has decided to rest the 21-year-old for tonight’s clash with Cypriot side Apoel Nicosia at the Bernabeu.

Asensio is likely to feature in Real’s next match, the La Liga clash with Real Sociedad on Sunday evening.

The former Mallorca man has scored twice in three La Liga games so far this season along with two goals in Real’s two-legged Spanish Super Cup victory over Barcelona. He scored 10 goals in 38 games in all competitions last season (three in 23 La Liga games).
