Toon Overhaul Bonus Structure
Newcastle United have agreed a bonus system that will see their squad share £4million just for surviving in the Premier League this season.
The Magpies players were led by skipper Jamaal Lascelles whose talks with club owner Mike Ashley have led to the establishment of a bonus structure worth considerably more than the one in place the last time the club were in the top flight.
According to local newspaper the Chronicle the players will also share an additional £1million for every place above 17th that the club finishes in. Previously, bonuses were only paid if the side finished in the top ten.
But there are also reports that Ashley has agreed a £20million bonus pot for the winning the FA Cup. Newcastle last won the competition in 1955.
Last season, Newcastle’s squad shared a £5million bonus after they were promoted from the Championship with each player receiving a stake based on appearances.
