Premier League Transfer Deadline Day Round-Up

Sanchez, Lemar, Barkley All Stay Put

Premier League transfer news and rumours

Manchester City’s failure to secure the transfer of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez was the main story of transfer deadline day.

City offered Arsenal £60million for the Chilean who was keen to make the move to the Etihad. But Arsenal put the recruitment of a replacement as a condition for the deal to go through. Although the Gunners had a £92million bid accepted for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar, he wanted to go to Liverpool. But there was no interest from Anfield and Lemar remains with Monaco while Sanchez is still an Arsenal player.

City are blaming Arsenal over the deal’s collapse. They claim to have approached Arsenal over a move for Sanchez as long ago as May but were only told this week that Arsenal were in position to discuss a deal.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left Arsenal for Liverpool in a deal worth £35million.

Sources close to Ross Barkley claim the Everton midfielder didn’t attend a medical at Chelsea on Thursday. There were reports that Barkley left Chelsea’s training centre at Cobham midway through a medical. That was after the two clubs had agreed a £35million deal. Everton did sign teenage forward Nikola Vlasic from Hajduk Split for £10million.

Tottenham Hotspur signed full-back Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of £23million. They also secured Fernando Llorente’s signature from Swansea City for £15million. The Swans replaced Llorente with former player Wilfried Bony. He moves from Manchester City for £12million.

Swansea City have also signed Bayern Munich forward Renato Sanches on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich.

Chelsea signed Torino full-back Davide Zappacosta for around £23million plus add-ons. Danny Drinkwater arrives from Leicester City for £35million. Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez was given permission to leave the Algerian team camp ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Zambia. He is still a target for Barcelona. The La Liga transfer window closes tonight.

Leicester City did sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Aleksandar Dragovic on a season-long loan.

Premier League newcomers Brighton signed former Inter Milan defender Ezequiel Schelotto from Sporting Lisbon for £2.75million. They missed out on Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen but they have signed goalkeeper Tim Krul on loan from Newcastle United.

Burnley signed striker Nakhi Wells from Huddersfield Town for a fee of around £5million.

West Bromwich Albion sold Callum McManaman to Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.

Crystal Palace finally signed defender Mamadou Sakho from Liverpool for £26million.

Molla Wague moves to Watford from sister club Udinese on loan. Left-back Marvin Zeegelaar has moved from Sporting Lisbon to Vicarage Road.

One club that was quiet were Manchester United. There were no deals at Old Trafford on deadline day despite reports linking them with Chelsea winger Willian. Andreas Pereira’s move to Valencia was blocked by Jose Mourinho.

Diafra Sakho was told he is staying with West Ham United after talks last night with the club’s board. He wanted a move to French side Rennes.
