Watford Transfer Breaks Down
Kieran Gibbs’s move from Arsenal to Watford has broken down and he could now be on his way to West Bromwich Albion.
It was reported at the weekend that the 27-year-old left-back was on the verge of a move to Vicarage Road in a deal that would have been worth as little as £5million up front with a further £2million in add-ons. Gibbs was given permission to open talks with Watford over personal terms, but his demands are too high for the Hornets and the transfer has collapsed.
West Bromwich Albion could now make a fresh move to revive their interest in Gibbs. The Baggies saw a £10million bid rejected last month by Arsenal. The Gunners were holding out for £12million. Manager Tony Pulis then turned his attentions to Tottenham left-back Kevin Wimmer, but he was unable to get that deal over the line after the Austrian expressed reservations over playing at left-back instead of his preferred position in the centre of defence.
Now, Pulis is back in for Gibbs. West Brom have tabled a bid for £7million. They could find Arsenal making an enquiry of their own for Baggies defender Jonny Evans. Leicester City have also been linked but the Northern Ireland international looks more likely to move to Manchester City.
