No Manchester United Move For Tierney This Month
Manchester United have put Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney at the top of their wishlist according to one football pundit. However, there will be no move for the Scotland international in this transfer window.
Tierney has been linked with a number of top English clubs. But Celtic’s determination to hold on to the 20-year-old for at least one more season has meant that any behind-the-scenes moves by Premier League clubs have been rebuffed by the Scottish champions.
However, speaking to the BBC Scotland football podcast, John Hartson said Tierney is definitely on United’s radar.
“I’m hearing he’s Manchester United’s number one target, but why on earth would Brendan Rodgers sell Tierney right now?” Hartson said.
“If I’m Brendan Rodgers, I’m saying to Mourinho, ‘Let him have another season here, keep your £25-30million for now, he’s got Champions League football, he loves playing for Celtic’.”
Celtic have been handed a tough draw in the group stages of the Champions League. They face Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Anderlecht. But it’s the kind of draw that will have Premier League scouts scurrying to their games. Bayern and PSG are two of Europe’s powerhouses and the clashes with those teams will give Tierney the chance to prove himself against two of Europe’s top clubs.
Football Gossip reported as long ago as March that Manchester United were watching Tierney. United scout Marcel Bout watched the youngster and team-mate Moussa Dembele in action for Celtic in their Old Firm clash with Rangers last season. But while United are keen on Tierney a move this summer was never on the cards. Luke Shaw could be sold next summer and Tierney is being lined up to replace him then.
Earlier this year, Tierney was valued at £10million. Expect him to go next summer for at least double that amount.
