Gray Set To Move To Watford
Watford are on the verge of signing striker Andre Gray from Burnley.
Reports this morning claimed that a fee has been agreed with Gray set to discuss personal terms and have a medical at Vicarage Road. But there is a difference of opinion over the size of the transfer fee. Some outlets claim the Hornets will pay £11.5million. However, others are suggesting the fee is £18million.
Gray is in the final year of his contract at Turf Moor. However, he has already turned down the offer of a new deal that would have made him the highest-paid player in the club’s history.
Burnley bought Gray for £9.75million from Championship side Brentford two years ago. However, they will have to pay the Bees 27.5 percent of any profit. For an £18million deal that means Burnley would have to pay over £2.27million.
Brentford must also pay 15 percent of any fee they receive to Gray’s previous club, Luton Town. That could be as much as £340,500. The striker spent two seasons with the Hatters playing in the National League between 2012 and 2014.
Gray, 26, scored nine Premier League goals last season. He made 26 league starts and six substitute appearances as the Clarets notched up their highest league finish in 42 years.
Gray will be Watford’s seventh new signing of the summer. Brazilian striker Richarlison arrived earlier this week to join Daniel Bachmann, Tom Cleverley, Kiko Femenia, Will Hughes and Nathaniel Chalobah.
