Griezmann, Sanchez, Sigurdsson, Barkley. Saturday’s Transfer Rumours
Manchester United have received a blow in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann. He has said once again that he won’t be leaving the La Liga side. United face competition from Manchester City for Benfica goalkeeper Ederson. However, City look have beaten United and Barcelona to the signature of Monaco full-back Fabinho. Manchester United are also being linked with a move for Chelsea defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic.
The father of Barcelona striker Neymar has urged him to join Manchester United in a bid to get out of the shadow of Lionel Messi.
Arsenal may allow Alexis Sanchez to run down his contract at the Emirates. However, Chelsea could be in with a bid this summer. Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette looks set to spurn interest from Arsenal and join Atletico Madrid. Arsene Wenger could take on a new member of his backroom staff. Tottenham Hotspur could put in a bid for Swansea City midfielder and former Spurs player Gylfi Sigurdsson. Manager Mauricio Pochettino believes Sigurdsson would be better value than Everton’s Ross Barkley.
Meanwhile, Everton boss Ronald Koeman says he doubts whether midfielder Barkley will sign a new deal with the club. “No. I spoke to the player, the board spoke to his agent. I don’t know if he won’t give an answer. I don’t know.” Barkley is likely to be sold if he fails to put pen to paper. Arsenal are also monitoring his situation. Everton are interested in Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
Carvalho, Mbappe, Mahrez
Manchester City are being linked with a double bid for the Sporting Lisbon duo William Carvalho and Gelson Martins.
Chelsea will use the pre-season programme to assess defender Matt Miazga. The USA international has been on loan at Vitesse Arnhem this season helping them to win the Dutch FA Cup, their first major trophy. Chelsea could sell midfielder Kenneth Omuero for £7m. The 23-year-old defender has been on loan at Turkish side Alanyaspor.
Liverpool haven’t made a €75m bid for Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe. However, Monaco insist he won’t be going anywhere this summer.
Southampton boss Claude Puel will have crunch talks with the club’s hierarchy over his future next week. However, he insists he still expects to remain in charge at St Mary’s.
Southampton, Everton, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough are all watching Nigerian winger Henry Oyekuru at Belgian side Eupen. The 19-year-old has scored 23 goals in 40 games this season.
West Ham United have exercised an option to keep goalkeeper Adrian at the club until 2019. However, defender Alvaro Arbeloa is set to leave. The former Real Madrid man has made just three Premier League appearances this season.
Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez is wanted by Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and one other Premier League club.
Burnley keeper Tom Heaton has played down talk of an exit from Turf Moor. Heaton, 31, has been linked with Manchester United though the prospects of him being signed as a direct replacement for David De Gea are slim. Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have also been linked.
Bournemouth are hoping that Jack Wilshere’s season-long loan will help persuade other players to move to the club. Cherries boss Eddie Howe is keen on three Chelsea players: defenders John Terry and Nathan Ake and keeper Asmir Begovic.
Brighton and Hove Albion have made their first signing. Midfielder Pascal Gross has arrived from German side Ingolstadt for a fee believed to be around €3m (£2.5m).
Middlesbrough defender and Liverpool transfer target Ben Gibson has dropped a broad hint that he may quit the Riverside this summer. “I would say that every player in the world wants to play in the Premier League and at the highest level, and I’m no different to that,” he said. Meanwhile, striker Jordan Rhodes is wanted by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in a permanent deal. Rhodes has scored three goals in 20 league appearances for the Owls since moving there on loan in January.
Hull City manager Marco Silva is set to leave the club. Watford are interested in appointing him as successor to Walter Mazzarri.
