Van Dijk Is Arsenal Transfer Target
Arsenal have joined the race for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, but the Gunners may have to shell out £50million for the Dutchman.
Van Dijk has impressed for the Saints since his £12million move from Celtic in the summer of 2015 and has made 68 appearances for the side.
However, the 25-year-old is currently out of action with a foot injury that he picked up at the end of January and the fear is that he won’t play again this season. That hasn’t stopped an increase in speculation over his future with Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City all keen.
The Daily Mirror believes Arsene Wenger is keen to recruit van Dijk as he seeks to move towards a back three formation which he successfully used in the 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough on Monday night.
But Southampton have put a £50million valuation on van Dijk. Chelsea are favourites to snap him up.
Wilshere In Arsenal Talks
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has opened talks over a new deal at the Emirates. The news comes after he saw his season ended through injury at the weekend.
A scan taken after Wilshere limped off in Bournemouth’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham on Saturday has shown that the 25-year-old has suffered a hairline fracture in his left fibula. It means the England international won’t play again this season.
Wilshere has spent the campaign on loan at Bournemouth where he has started 22 Premier League games and been a substitute in five others. But it is believed that the Cherries have cooled their interest over a permanent deal.
Talks will now take place over a new contract at Arsenal. Wilshere’s current deal expires at the end of next season. The midfielder is said to be unconvinced whether he has any role in Arsene Wenger’s plans. However, Bournemouth’s decision not to pursue any deal means his options are narrowing.
