Manchester United Join Race For Scottish Youngster
Manchester United are being linked once again with Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney. According to the Daily Star, Tierney is being watched by United scouts along with his Celtic team-mate Moussa Dembele. United’s chief scout Marcel Bout watched the pair in action during the Scottish Premiership match with Rangers at Parkhead earlier this month.
This isn’t the first time that United have been linked with the 19-year-old. Football Gossip reported in January that the Premier League giants had resumed monitoring Tierney after he recovered from an ankle injury that he sustained in October. There had been claims that United could put in a £10million bid in January. That proved not to be the case.
Arsenal are also keeping tabs on Tierney. The £10million valuation is likely to still apply by the end of the season. However, with other Premier League clubs also likely to be monitoring the Scotland international there exists the danger that an auction could develop.
Tierney made his first-team debut for Celtic in April 2015 when he was just 17 and has gone on to make 65 first-team appearances for the club. He also has three senior caps for Scotland.
United could be in the market for a full-back this summer. Much depends on the future of Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian. Both players could be sold at the end of the season although the word on Shaw is that Jose Mourinho wants to keep him at the club. However, Shaw is known to be unhappy at the lack of first-team opportunities under Mourinho. He has made only two first-team appearances this calendar year: against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup and against Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Darmian is being linked with a return to Serie A. Roma are the latest side to show an interest.
