Ibrahimovic Wants Serious Title Attempt
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will remain at Manchester United next season. That’s according to the Swedish newspaper Expressen which reports that the 35-year-old will shun interest from MLS side LA Galaxy that would have made him the highest-paid player in American history.
Respected Expressen reporter Daniel Kristoffersson claims to have been told by independent sources that Ibrahimovic is set to turn down an offer from Galaxy to remain at Old Trafford for at least another season.
According to Kristoffersson, Ibrahimovic is looking for a two-year deal with Manchester United, but he is willing to sign up for just one more year.
So why the delay? It seems that Ibrahimovic’s remaining ambition in his career is not to win the Champions League but the Premier League title. If he achieves that then he will join a select group of players to have won titles in Italy, Spain, France and England. He has been waiting for signs from United boss Jose Mourinho that his transfer activity this summer will lead to a serious tilt next season at the Premier League. That he has so far refused to put pen to paper is a means of him putting a little bit of pressure on the club to spend wisely in order to compete.
United have spent much of the season in sixth place. They are by no means out of the race for a top four spot. However, Chelsea are streaking away with the title in a season where many thought it would be a straight race between Mourinho’s United and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Ibrahimovic hinted last week that he was content at Old Trafford. That’s despite rumours his partner Helena Seger isn’t too keen on life in the north-west of England.
“I’m happy here, but you never know what will happen. Let’s wait and see what happens,” he told former England manager Fabio Capello in an interview last week for an Italian TV station.
Raiola Has Manchester United Talks
However, Expressen adds that he spent part of last week in the UK for talks with United over Ibrahimovic’s contract.
