Firmino Robbed In Apartment Raid

Liverpool midfielder Roberto Firmino has been robbed of £70,000 worth of watches, jewellery and clothes following a burglary at his home.

According to The Sun , the incident took place on 22 December – two days before Firmino was arrested for allegedly drink-driving.

The thieves are believed to have kept watch on Firmino’s Liverpool apartment for a number of days before striking while the Brazilian, his wife Larissa and their children were out. The robbers are thought to have been thwarted on a previous attempt.

The 25-year-old Firmino was moved to a city-centre hotel and a member of the club’s security team was detailed to keep watch on them over the Christmas period.

“He was obviously shaken up as he has a young family, so the club had him in a hotel before giving him security at the house,” a ‘club source’ told the newspaper.

The report has echoes of the situation that Angel Di Maria found himself in at Manchester United two years ago. Thieves targeted the Argentine’s Cheshire home which they raided one Saturday night. The difference with this situation is that Di Maria was at home with his family whereas Firmino was out at the time his home was raided. But the psychological effects of the burglary affected Di Maria and he quit England for Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2014-15 season.

Firmino moved to Liverpool from German side Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015. He made a total of 71 appearances for the Reds during his 18 months at the club.

Despite his off-the-field problems Firmino has managed to keep his focus following the two incidents. He was Man Of The Match in the 4-1 victory over Stoke City on 27 December and was influential in the 1-0 win over Manchester City on New Year’s Eve. He was left out of the side that drew 0-0 with League Two side Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup Third Round on Sunday but is likely to return for this week’s EFL Cup semi-final first leg clash with Southampton.
