Suarez Wins Award For Europe’s Top Goalscorer
Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has hailed Luis Suarez as “the best number 9” after the Barcelona striker’s Golden Shoe triumph.
Suarez was presented with the Golden Shoe Award for being the top scorer in Europe for the 2015-16 season. Suarez scored 59 goals in 53 games for Barcelona last season. It’s the second time he has won the award. His previous triumph came just two seasons ago when he was with Liverpool.
Evra and Suarez had some history. Suarez was accused of using abusive language towards the Frenchman during a match between Liverpool and Manchester United in 2011. Suarez refused to shake Evra’s hand when the two sides met in the return game in February 2012. Evra responded by celebrating in front of Suarez at the end of the game following a United victory.
But Suarez’s award has been hailed by Evra. He took to Instagram to congratulate the Uruguayan on his feat.
“On my Instagram there ‘only love and hate never !!! Luis, you’re a great player is the best number 9 Congratulations Luis @ luissuarez9 I love this game !!! hahahaah” he wrote.
Suarez picked up a £40,000 fine and an eight-match ban following the spat between the two men.
So far this season the Uruguay international has scored nine goals in 12 games in all competitions for Barcelona.
