Monaco Slap £36m Price Tag On Manchester United Target
Manchester United have been told to pay £36million for Monaco full-back Fabinho.
But the situation isn’t quite so clear-cut.
United found their way to a deal for Fabinho blocked by Monaco in August after the French side qualified for the group stages of the Champions League. Failure to do so would have meant them having to sell.
Monaco’s progress in Europe is also likely to determine whether or not Fabinho leaves in January. Qualification for the knockout stages is likely to rule out any move away from the Ligue 1 side for the 22-year-old.
Fabinho’s valuation in August was around €30million (at the time worth £25million).
United will face competition from Barcelona for Fabinho’s figure. The Catalan giants are in the market for a right-sided wing-back and reports from Spain this week suggest Fabinho is on the Nou Camp shortlist.
Loan The Only Option For Darmian
Manchester United are struggling to offload Matteo Darmian, according to Goal. But again, the situation isn’t quite so clear-cut.
The website claims United may have to consider a loan move for the Italy international right-back. That has always been the case.
United have three options for Darmian. They either loan him out with the option of a permanent deal in the summer, or they sell him for a much lower price than the £12million they paid Torino for him in 2015.
The third option is that they keep him.
That latter option isn’t viable. Darmian is a highly-paid player. He has featured in only one of Jose Mourinho’s Premier League squads so far this season and he failed to get off the bench on that occasion.
As Football Gossip reported earlier this week Inter Milan are prepared to take Darmian on loan. But they will only offer United €1million (£900,000) with up to €14million to make the deal permanent next summer. That totals £13.5 million at today’s exchange rates.
United are looking for €18million including a loan fee.
Barcelona are also interested in Darmian.
Depay In Wolfsburg Link
Manchester United winger Memphis Depay is a January transfer target for Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
The Netherlands international has also fallen down the pecking order since Jose Mourinho’s arrival at the club and he told a Dutch newspaper this week that just having a contract at Old Trafford isn’t enough. He wants more game time having played 94 minutes of football so far this season. Twelve of those minutes came in three substitute appearances in the Premier League.
Wolfsburg are looking to boost their attacking options following a start that has seen them in 13th place in the Bundesliga. The side has scored just four goals in six games. One of those was an own goal.
There is mystery surrounding Bastian Schweinsteiger after it was revealed that he is no longer training with the club’s under-23 squad. The 32-year-old was banished from the first-team squad in July.
Schweinsteiger is believed to be doing all his training at a gym in Hale, just outside Manchester.
