Inter To Bid £13.5m For Manchester United Full-Back
Inter Milan will bid a total of around £13.5million for the Manchester United right-back Matteo Darmian. That’s according to Italian newspaper Leggo. However, the newspaper also reports that United are demanding €18million (£16.2million) for the Italy international.
Football Gossip reported on Thursday that Inter are keen on a deal for Darmian, a player they were also interested in during the summer.
Darmian snubbed Inter in August by saying he wanted to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the Manchester United side. But Jose Mourinho has overlooked the 26-year-old for all except one of United’s seven Premier League match-day squads. On the one occasion Darmian did make the bench he was an unused substitute. He has only a 90-minute run-out against Feyenoord in the Europa League to his name so far.
Leggo claims Inter are ready to offer a loan fee for Darmian of €1million (£900,000) in January along with the right to buy him on a permanent basis for €13-14million (£11.7-12.7million) in the summer. That’s slightly short of United’s valuation.
However, as we reported on Thursday, Barcelona are waiting in the wings. The Catalan side are in the market for a right-sided wing-back having failed to adequately replace Dani Alves. The Brazilian left for Juventus in the summer. Darmian is also on their watch-list and they could put in a bid of their own.
Johnstone Wanted By Villa
Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is wanted by Aston Villa. The 23-year-old is currently third-choice keeper at Old Trafford behind David De Gea and Sergio Romero and has yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for the club.
According to the Daily Mail, new Villa boss Steve Bruce is targeting Johnstone in the January transfer window. That’s despite the Championship side already having three keepers on their books in former United stopper Pierluigi Gollini, plus Jed Steer and Mark Bunn.
Jose Mourinho wants Johnstone to go out on loan to gain first-team experience. The keeper has already had eight loan spells away from Old Trafford: two each at Doncaster Rovers and Preston North End plus loans at Oldham Athletic, Scunthorpe United, Walsall and Yeovil Town.
Johnstone remained at Old Trafford after the summer transfer window despite fielding interest from ten different clubs all of whom were in the Championship or below.
But the Mail claims Johnstone will head out again in January before signing a new contract with Manchester United. His present deal has 18 months to run.
Manchester United transfer target Gareth Bale will cost the Red Devils £450million if they wish to sign him.
The Wales international looks set to put pen to paper on a new deal with Real Madrid containing a release clause allowing him to leave for €500million.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s two children have joined Wayne Rooney’s son Kai at the Manchester United academy.
Max, 10, and Vincent, 8, will join Kai Rooney and the children of Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt in the set-up.
