Darmian Set To Move On In January
Inter Milan look set to make a January move for Manchester United right-back Matteo Darmian; however, they could face competition for his signature from Barcelona.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claims Darmian is top of Inter’s wishlist for the January transfer window.
The Italy international has just 90 minutes of football under his belt so far this season. That came when he was part of the United side that were beaten by Feyenoord in the Europa League last month.
He has made Jose Mourinho’s 18-man Premier League squad on just one occasion and has yet to make an appearance in the league.
Darmian was linked with a move to Inter at the end of August. However, he decided to stay and fight for his place in United’s first team.
Inter are expected to offer United a deal whereby Darmian moves on loan until the end of the season with a right to purchase the Italy international for a pre-agreed fee.
But Corriere dello Sport claims Inter could face a challenge for Darmian from Barcelona and are already looking at alternatives should their bid fail.
Barcelona have problems of their own on the right-hand side having failed to find a suitable replacement for Dani Alves who left for Juventus in the summer. Darmian is being considered as a possible January recruit.
Darmian arrived at Old Trafford from Torino in a £12million deal in the summer of 2015. He started in 24 of United’s 38 Premier League games last season but has fallen out of favour since Jose Mourinho’s arrival as manager.
