Arsenal Set To Offer New Deal To Bellerin
Arsenal will offer Hector Bellerin a five-year contract in a bid to end interest from Barcelona and Manchester City.
The 21-year-old right-back – whose current deal runs to 2019 – was linked with interest from the two clubs during the summer. However, Arsene Wenger put a £30million price tag on the Spaniard which was enough to deter any interest from Barcelona. Reports last month suggested that both clubs wouldn’t see such a valuation as a problem next summer.
Bellerin’s representatives have already met Arsenal to talk over a new deal and more detailed discussions are expected to take place later this month.
Bellerin began his career at Barcelona, but he moved to Arsenal as a 16-year-old. He broke into the first team during the 2014-15 season following an injury to Mathie Debuchy.
Arsenal Target Watched By United
One-time Arsenal transfer target Alex Grimaldo is being watched by Premier League rivals Manchester United. Representatives from Old Trafford were on hand to watch the 21-year-old left-back in action for Benfica against Feria on Sunday night.
Grimaldo was strongly linked with Arsenal late last year after he was told he wasn’t in the plans of Barca coach Luis Enrique. However, after initially digging in his heels he moved to Benfica in early January. But the fee was just €1.5million – around £1.2million at the time – which suggests Arsenal’s interest had come to an end by that stage.
The Gunners were linked again in September when they were one of 31 clubs to have scouts at Benfica’s Champions League game with Besiktas.
Middlesbrough, Valencia and Juventus are also interested.
