Mandzukic In Fresh Arsenal Link
Arsenal will be offered striker Mario Mandzukic by Juventus as part of any deal for Alexis Sanchez. Chile international Sanchez is being linked with a move away from the Emirates next summer should he fail to sign a new deal with the Gunners and the Serie A giants are favourites to snap him up.
Juve were linked with Sanchez during the summer. However, Arsenal dismissed any enquiries by insisting that the 27-year-old is not for sale.
But the Gunners won’t easily reject any such enquiries next summer. Sanchez is dragging his heels over a new deal despite reports that he will be offered £200,000 a week to sign a contract extension at the Emirates to 2020. His present deal expires in 2018, therefore he will have one year left at the end of this season.
Italian website CMW claims Juventus will offer cash plus Croatia international striker Mandzukic in exchange for the £35million-rated Sanchez. It claims Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a long-time admirer; however, Mandzukic is now 30 years old. He will be 31 by the time any deal is done. That’s too old for Wenger to consider a signing.
Wenger Calls For Patience Over Xhaka
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has called for Arsenal fans to be patient with midfielder Granit Xhaka. The £34million summer signing from Borussia Monchengladbach has failed to impress so far this season, but Wenger says it is a matter of allowing the Switzerland international to adapt to the English game.
“It’s not about his quality at the moment – he adapts to the pace of the English game – and for me it’s about pairs as well, who work together,” Wenger said on Friday.
“Coquelin and Cazorla have worked well together. We lost our first game. You go a bit for stability. They have 50 or 60 games together and that has a little impact sometimes in my decisions, but Xhaka will play games. Every week he’s stronger and better. He will have a huge impact as a player.
“He has the stature, he has the power, he has the strength. What we want is to use that in a very efficient wait. I personally prefer him as a box-to-box player, because he has the engine, he has the power, he has the long pass. He also likes to come deep and distribute the game, but he has the engine to have the impact with his runs.
“We are September. We started in August so it’s one month. Many players take time to get into the team. He will do that without any problem.”
Arsenal Watching Belotti
Arsenal are interested in Torino striker Andrea Belotti. Reports from Italy claim that both the Gunners and Liverpool are keeping tabs on the 22-year-old who has scored four times in three appearances for Torino so far this season.
Belotti scored 12 goals last season at an average of one for every 216 minutes on the pitch.
