Xhaka Arsenal Transfer To Be Announced This Week
Arsenal expect to announce Granit Xhaka’s arrival at the Emirates within the next 48 hours. The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder was spotted at the club’s London Colney training ground on Friday where he had a series of publicity shots taken ahead of the official announcement later this week.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is in no rush to announce the deal. Indeed, Xhaka has already signed on the dotted line. But the Gunners’ publicity team are waiting for the fuss to die down over Louis van Gaal’s sacking at Manchester United and the arrival in his place of Jose Mourinho before they take centre stage with the announcement of Xhaka’s signing from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Meanwhile, Xhaka’s former club Basel are expecting a windfall of almost £12million from Arsenal’s purchase of the Switzerland international. German newspaper Bild reports that out of the transfer fee of €45million (£35million) a third – €15million (£11.6million) – will go to Basel under the transfer deal that brought Xhaka to Borussia in 2012.
Bild also reports that Borussia will use the rest of the proceeds – a record for the club – to invest in the side. They finished fourth in the Bundesliga and are in the play-off stages of the Champions League next season.
Morata Juventus Exit Confirmed
Arsenal transfer target Alvaro Morata has confirmed his exit from Juventus. The Spaniard is a £51million target for the Gunners after Real Madrid activated a clause in the deal that took him to Juve to buy him back for €30million. Real will double their money by selling him on.
A Turin restaurant posted an image to Instagram on Sunday in which the owners were pictured with Morata under a sign that said “Adios Amigo”. Paris Saint-Germain lead the race for Morata’s signature with reports claiming he will be offered a deal worth over £220,000 a week.
