Manchester United are keen on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but they face competition from AC Milan in the race to secure the Swedish striker’s signature according to reports from France.

Ibrahimovic, 34, becomes a free agent at the end of the season. Arsenal were being linked this week largely off the back of comments from Rio Ferdinand that he would be a perfect fit for the north London side. But the French newspaper L’Equipe claims that United and Milan are among the clubs vying for his signature.

L’Equipe’s report is largely a re-hash of a story that was doing the rounds in the UK last month. That story suggested that Ibrahimovic could move to Old Trafford should Jose Mourinho be installed as the new manager at Manchester United. The pair worked together at Inter Milan.

But L’Equipe claims that Milan have been monitoring Ibrahimovic for a number of months. The Serie A side put in a bid to sign Ibrahimovic – who also counts Milan amongst his former clubs – last summer but could not make the deal work financially.

There must be some doubts as to whether Ibrahimovic can cut it in the Premier League and whether United would be interested in signing a 34-year-old player. But he proved he could mix it with the best of them in the recent Champions League Round of 16 games with Chelsea. He scored twice and provided one assist over the two legs of the tie as PSG went through 4-2 on aggregate.

Herrera In Atletico Link As Griezmann Rules Out Move

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is being linked with interest from Atletico Madrid. The 26-year-old still has two years to run on his current deal at Old Trafford, but the Daily Mail claims he would find it difficult to resist the opportunity to return to Spain and United would find it difficult to resist cashing in.

Herrera isn’t an automatic starter having made the starting eleven in 15 Premier League games for United so far this season. He has also been a substitute in ten more having come off the bench six times.

United could sell this summer if they receive the right bid.

United are being linked with Atletico Madrid winger Antoine Griezmann, but he has told French radio station RMC that he has no interest in quitting the La Liga side.

“My career plan is to try to go as far as possible in the Champions League and then win the Euro. I did not want to leave,” he said.

Chelsea are also being linked.

De Gea Set For Real Madrid

Real Madrid will pay David De Gea’s £30million release clause this summer. So says Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

Real failed with a bid of €40million – then worth £29million – last summer after the paperwork wasn’t lodged in time with the Spanish FA. De Gea has since signed a new deal at Old Trafford but with a release clause of £30million. Balague claims Real will put in a bid of that size at the end of the season.
