Elneny Transfer Could Now Be Completed “This Week”
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that a visa application and “paperwork” are behind the delays in completing the signing of Mohamed Elneny. The Basel defensive midfielder underwent a medical at the club’s London Colney complex between Christmas and New Year after the two clubs agreed a £7.4million transfer deal. But Elneny’s move has been held up, supposedly by a visa application.
Wenger hinted at the weekend that Elneny’s transfer move was imminent. But in a press conference this morning Wenger said he is hopeful that the move could be announced in the next few days.
“I expect movement,” said the Arsenal boss. “I think this week it can happen, we are positive.
“The situation should be sorted out. There’s a lot of work permit problems and special paperwork to do and the visa. We hope to finalise it this week.”
Arsenal will pay €10million (£7.4million) for Elneny. The Egypt international has had to go through a work permit application process as his country are outside Fifa’s Top 50 ranked nation.
