No Manchester United Transfer For Mane This Month
Manchester United have failed in their bid to sign Southampton winger Sadio Mane. The 23-year-old was a transfer target for Manchester United last August. Southampton rejected United’s interest on that occasion and they look set to do so again. The Daily Mail claims that United approached the Saints earlier this week about a move for Mane but were told Southampton won’t entertain any move for the Senegal international.
However, the Mail adds that the Saints have held open the chance of a Manchester United transfer next summer. Southampton will then demand around £30million for a player who cost them £11.8million when they bought him from Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in 2014.
Mane was dropped by Saints boss Ronald Koeman for last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Norwich City after he arrived late for a team meeting.
Ronaldo In Fresh Link With United
Cristiano Ronaldo still wants to leave Real Madrid despite the sacking of Rafa Benitez and the appointment in his place of Zinedine Zidane. Ronaldo, 30, had a poor relationship with Benitez and that was thought to be a factor behind the dismissal of the former Liverpool and Chelsea boss.
Zidane is preparing to use a front three of Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema. But the Daily Telegraph claims that Ronaldo is still looking to exit the Bernabeu this summer and that Manchester United will challenge Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.
However, United remain as second favourites. Paris Saint-Germain have been monitoring the 30-year-old for some years and will be keen to snap him up. Real will be willing to let him go as they believe his best years are behind him.
But United have a better chance of signing Ronaldo than they do of snapping up Gareth Bale. The Welshman is also being linked with a move away from the Bernabeu and reports on Wednesday claimed United were pushing for a deal in the January transfer window. But Real president Florentino Perez sees Bale as the future of his club and won’t listen to any offers either this month or in the summer.
Rumours of an exit for Bale still abound. The latest suggest that he could join Chelsea or Bayern Munich both of whom are interested. Chelsea see Bale as a replacement for Eden Hazard who looks likely to move to the Bernabeu in the summer. Bayern will be coached next season by Bale’s former boss at Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, though the Welshman didn’t enjoy as fruitful a period under the Italian as he did under Rafa Benitez.
Januzaj Set For Manchester United Return
Manchester United are expected to announce the return of forward Adnan Januzaj. The Belgium international is on a season-long loan at Borussia Dortmund. However, he is very much on the fringes of the Bundesliga side’s squad. Januzaj has managed just 159 minutes of league football in the four months since he moved to Germany. He played 127 minutes in the Premier League during the month of August following his exit from Old Trafford.
United have asked Dortmund to release Januzaj from his season-long loan. The German side have agreed. [Full story here].
