Links Revived With Three Arsenal Transfer Targets
William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon, Grzegorz Krychowiak of Sevilla and Ruben Neves of Benfica are the three players under consideration, according to The Times.
Carvalho (above) – who risks a club fine after being discovered in a nightclub less than 48 hours before a recent game – has been an Arsenal transfer target for almost two years. But his release clause stands at €45million (£32.8million) and with no experience in any of Europe’s top leagues Arsene Wenger is reluctant to pay such a huge fee for a 23-year-old. Carvalho is more likely to sign a new contract with Sporting.
Krychowiak was an Arsenal transfer target during the summer. Again, his release clause was a barrier to any deal. Sevilla rate the Poland international at €30million (£22million) and once again Arsene Wenger baulked at the valuation. Sevilla are also keen to offer a new deal to the 25-year-old.
It’s a similar story for Ruben Neves. The 18-year-old was linked with interest from Arsenal at the start of this month when it was claimed the Gunners will offer an initial £12million with a further £10million in add-ons and bonuses. But the Porto midfielder has a release fee of €40million (£29million) and the Portugese side will demand a much higher initial fee if they are to contemplate an exit for Neves.
Neves recently became the youngest captain of a side in the Champions League when he led Porto in their tie with Maccabi Tel Aviv. With Neves – as with all Arsenal transfer targets – the Gunners are going to have to dig deep.
Arsenal Transfer Target Set For Portugal
Arsenal could put in a bid for Barcelona midfielder Alex Grimaldo. The Gunners were linked last month with the 20-year-old but we reported at the time that he isn’t keen on leaving the Nou Camp. However, he has yet to make a first-team debut for Barca other than in pre-season friendlies.
The Daily Express claims that Arsenal will make a move in January for Grimaldo, but reports from Portugal suggest it is a straight race between two of that country’s top clubs with Benfica beating Porto to his signature.
Reports from Spain claim Arsenal will allow full-back Nacho Monreal to join Athletic Bilbao in January. The report comes from Fichajes which claims Monreal will move to the Basque club in January.
There have been rumours that Monreal has already signed a new contract with Arsenal and that it has yet to be announced by the club.
