United Talking To Griezmann Agent
United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked with the France international, though the Gunners’ interest ended when he moved to Atletico from Real Sociedad in 2014.
Both Chelsea and United have spoken to Griezmann’s representatives, according to Spanish website Fichajes.net. But while the 24-year-old is happy enough at Atletico he sees himself taking a step up to one of the top clubs in European football one day. Whether that will be next summer or in 2017 remains to be seen.
Griezmann’s goalscoring record has been impressive at Atletico with 31 goals in 63 games in all competitions for the club. In La Liga it is even more impressive with 26 in 45 games.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keeping tabs on a player whose release clause stands at €60million (£43.5million). That figure will deter all but the richest clubs. But while Chelsea will offer stiff competition to United the west London side’s chances of signing Griezmann could disappear if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Van Gaal Snaps Over Rooney Questions
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal refused to discuss Wayne Rooney’s form following the goalless draw with Manchester City on Sunday.
Rooney put in a poor performance with a passing accuracy of just 55 percent. He failed to have any shots on target not did he create any chances for his team-mates leading to some reporters at the post-match press conference to question at least whether or not he is a natural number 9 any longer.
“I have to talk every week about Rooney, why?” said van Gaal when asked at the press conference.
The reporter posing the question replied that the England international – who turned 30 over the weekend – was struggling to perform.
“Then you have to write it. It is your opinion,” van Gaal snapped back. “I don’t give any more answers about Wayne Rooney. I am sick of them.”
Sunday’s result leaves United in fourth place in the Premier League just two points behind leaders Manchester City.
Two stats to come out of Sunday’s game: United have conceded only one goal at home in the Premier League so far this season. However, they have yet to score a single goal from outside the penalty box.
