Neymar Rules Out United Move
Manchester United transfer target Neymar has scotched rumours about a move to Old Trafford. The Barcelona forward was linked last weekend with a £140million bid from Old Trafford, but speaking to Spanish television station TV3 last night he said there was no chance of him moving to the Premier League.
“I want to stay at Barcelona, no matter how many million pound offers come from England,” said Neymar after appearing in Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Malaga last night.
“The people from Barca have been calm. When I hear things like this, I don’t think anything. I just heard it and I am calm. I am very happy at Barca and with my colleagues.”
There were reports last week suggesting Neymar was interested in making the move to Old Trafford. But there was also speculation that he may use the interest to pick up a better contract with Barcelona.
That seems to have worked.
Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu hinted that he wants Neymar to spend the rest of his career at the Nou Camp. An increase in wages will be accompanied by increase in his release clause to €250million (£180million) – the same as Lionel Messi.
Hernandez More Likely To Move To Bayer Than Spurs
Manchester United have rebuffed an enquiry from Tottenham Hotspur for striker Javier Hernandez. Spurs are in the market for a striker with Emmanuel Adebayor set to quit White Hart Lane for either West Ham United or Aston Villa.
The Daily Star Sunday claims Tottenham could try again for Hernandez if they fail to sign Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion.
However, they will face some competition for Hernandez from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen. The German club sold Son Heung-min to Tottenham for £22million this week and could invest some of the proceeds in a move for the 27-year-old Hernandez.
Cillessen Linked Again. Lindegaard Could Benefit As Valdes Move Collapses
Manchester United are still hopeful of striking a deal for Ajax keeper Jasper Cillessen. The Netherlands international has been linked with United as a replacement for David De Gea – assuming De Gea will be gone by Monday.
Ajax will extract a heavy price should De Gea leave. The Dutch side have seen three possible replacements for Cillessen come off the market while speculation has continued about their player.
De Gea’s transfer could move forward on Monday – transfer deadline day in Spain. Agent Jorge Mendes will arrive in England where he will urge United to listen to realistic offers for the Spaniard.
One keeper who won’t be leaving Old Trafford is Victor Valdes. His move to Besiktas fell through as he was about to catch a flight to Istanbul this morning. The Turkish side are believed to have reduced their offer of €2.5million a season to €2.1million leading to Valdes pulling out of the deal.
However, Besiktas are in talks with another United keeper, Anders Lindegaard. They have offered him €1.3million a year – around £20,000 a week after tax – and he is keen to take them up on hit. But Besiktas are also in talks with former Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda.
United Target Draxler Staying In Germany?
Reports linking Manchester United will Schalke 04 midfielder Julian Draxler could prove to be premature. The 21-year-old has been linked over the past week with Juventus. However, Italian newspapers were reporting today that he has signed for Wolfsburg for a fee of almost £30million.
The Sunday Telegraph claims that United could turn their sights to Draxler. The Germany international has been linked in the past with Arsenal, but an injury-hit 2014-15 appears to have ended that interest.
United have asked Atletico Madrid about the availability of winger Antoine Griezmann, but Atletico Madrid expect there to be no bids for the Frenchman before the transfer deadline. United’s enquiry was just that – an enquiry.
