Transfer Move More Likely In 2016
Reports over the weekend have linked United with interest in the Brazilian. The reports were denied on Saturday by his agent Wagner Ribeiro who told a Brazilian news organisation that the rumours were nothing more than speculation and that Neymar is happy at the Nou Camp.
However, The Guardian claimed this afternoon that Neymar is keen on a move to Old Trafford. The paper adds that sources close to the forward say he is attracted by United’s history and the size of the club and that he would like to move to the Premier League.
Neymar moved to Barcelona from Santos in 2013 in a controversial transfer that appears to have cost the Catalan club in excess of €100million, a good portion of which allegedly went to the player and his father. He still has three years left on his current deal and The Guardian suggests that a serious Manchester United transfer bid is more likely in the summer of 2016.
But United are aware that the 23-year-old could simply use their interest to secure a pay rise from Barcelona. His current earnings are estimated at anything from £120,000-150,000 a week with at least the same again in separate promotion and endorsement deals.
United could double his playing earnings. He knows that and will use their interest as leverage with Barca.
United are hopeful of a deal for Neymar in this transfer window, but realistically they know they have a better chance in 2016.
