No Manchester United Transfer Move For Neymar
Speculation in the media on Saturday morning suggested that United have made enquiries about the Brazilian, but Wagner Ribeiro rubbished the rumours.
“There’s nothing,” Ribeiro told Globoesporte in Brazil. “This is summer window speculation. It does not exist. He has three more years on his contract. English newspapers are very speculative. Barcelona never think about selling Neymar and he is very happy there.”
United boss Louis van Gaal did nothing to dispel the rumours after today’s goalless draw with Newcastle. When asked about Neymar he simply refused to comment.
United Watch Odd Winger
Manchester United are being linked with 17-year-old Norwegian winger Rafik Zekhnini. The youngster starred for Odd Grenland in their Europa League tie with Borussia Dortmund on Thursday. Odd lost 4-3 after being 3-0 up midway through the first half, but Zekhnini impressed enough for Dortmund defender Mats Hummels to express an expletive-laden reply when told Zekhnini’s age.
Dortmund are also keen and Norwegian newspaper VG claims that bids could come in this week from some of Europe’s big clubs.
Meanwhile, Odd coach Dag-Eilev Fagermo believes Zekhnini is a better prospect than another Norwegian youngster, Martin Ødegaard, who moved to Real Madrid at the start of the year.
“I think Rafik has greater potential than Martin Ødegaard. Ødegaard has of course amazing skills and a better passing game. But the pressure and speed of Rafik Zekhnini is extreme. He is better at dribbling and creating an imbalance. That is what enables him to reach beyond Ødegaard.”
However, Fagermo says he hopes Zekhnini will remain in Norway’s Tippeligaen for the time being.
“Interest has risen even more after yesterday’s game.
“Too many players go abroad at a young age. If he were to be sold to a big club now, I think that he should be lent to us so he gets another year in the Tippaligaen. We must not underestimate the experience young players get in the Tippaligaen.”
Evans Linked With West Brom
Manchester United defender Jonny Evans could be a target for West Bromwich Albion. The Baggies could turn to Evans after their bid to sign Federico Fazio from Tottenham Hotspur collapsed after failing to agree personal terms.
However, sources at The Hawthorns claim that while West Brom are chasing other defensive targets the Fazio deal has been put ‘on hold’ and could subsequently be revived.
