Arsenal are being linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets. According to the Barcelona-based newspaper Sport the 27-year-old is a target for Arsene Wenger as he seeks to strengthen his squad.
Busquets started in 29 of Barca’s 38 games in La Liga last season and was a substitute in four more. Injuries and suspension ruled him out of the other five. As such, his situation is different to that of Pedro who lost his place in the starting line-up last season to Luis Suarez.
Arsenal were linked with Busquets last December when it was claimed he was simply looking for a change of scenery. But Wenger’s move looks doomed to fail. Busquets doesn’t want to leave the Nou Camp having been part of three Champions League-winning teams with Barcelona. The club are unwilling to let him go mindful of his importance to the side. As well as that there is the fact that their transfer embargo means he cannot be replaced until January at the earliest.
An Arsenal transfer for Busquets looks unlikely.
