Firmino In Liverpool Transfer Link
The 23-year-old was linked earlier this month with an €18million (£13.4million) move to the Reds’ arch-rivals Manchester United, but Brazilian website Globo Esporte claims he is set for a transfer to Anfield.
Firmino is currently with the Brazil side at the Copa America tournament in Chile, but the games he has taken part in are his first competitive internationals and that could have an effect on the transfer.
It is thought Firmino does not have an EU passport, though that has never been officially confirmed. If true, he may fall foul of the new work permit regulations that came in from 1 May and which have yet to be tested. Players must have played in a certain percentage of competitive internationals for their country over the previous two years. That would go back to 2013, but Firmino only made his full international debut last autumn and the three games he has appeared in at the Copa America leave him well short of the required percentage. That means he has to rely on the ‘exceptional talent’ get-out clause. The clause has been used by top clubs on numerous occasions in the past, but it has yet to be tested under the new rules.
Firmino scored seven goals and provided ten assists for Hoffenheim last season. His future will be decided once the Copa America is over.
Liverpool Expect £50m Sterling Bid
Liverpool are expecting a third bid from Manchester City for Raheem Sterling and an offer of £50million bid will seal an exit for the 20-year-old.
City have already seen bids of £30million and £40million rejected by Liverpool, but the Liverpool Echo claims the Reds are bracing themselves for a third bid.
Liverpool don’t want to sell Sterling, but a bid that matches their £50million valuation won’t be ignored and given the player’s wish to leave Anfield a bid of that magnitude is likely to be accepted.
Lacazette In Lyon Contract Talks
Liverpool transfer target Alexandre Lacazette is in talks with French side Lyon over a new deal. The 24-year-old, who was the top scorer in Ligue 1 last season, has been linked with Liverpool even though he says he will only leave Lyon for a side playing in the Champions League.
Lacazette is thought to want a stay at Lyon in preference to a move away. He currently earns €4million a year and is looking for €6million a year – around £80,000 a week. Reports from France claim there is an impasse between the striker and the club. However, a move to Liverpool remains as far away as ever.
