Otamendi ‘Wants Manchester United Move’

Nicolas Otamendi Manchester United transfer newsNicolas Otamendi is ‘desperate’ for a Manchester United transfer this summer, according to reports today.

The Valencia centre-back is wanted by United, but the Daily Mirror claims he is second choice as Louis van Gaal would prefer Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels. However, Hummels is staying with Dortmund and our sources tell us that Otamendi is closer to a United move than the Mirror thinks.

Otamendi is reported to have told friends that he wants to move to Old Trafford and those reports are undoubtedly true.

But his agent Eugenio Lopez was due to meet this week with the Valencia hierarchy and he has handed them two proposals. First of all, United are offering £25million, but there is also an offer from Real Madrid who are interested in the Argentine.

But Valencia want the full value of Otamendi’s release clause worth €50million (£35million) and won’t entertain anything below that figure. He is certainly ‘desperate’ to play for United and with Hummels unlikely to be in play this summer he’s the number one pick. The 26-year-old wants to wait until after the Copa America before deciding his future.

“Every word my agent says is with my approval and he has permission to speak to who he has to speak to,” Otamendi told ESPN. “But for now my mind is only with the national team and I am leaving everything in his hands.”

Liverpool To Challenge for Firmino

Liverpool will try to beat Manchester United to the signature of Hoffenheim midfielder Roberto Firmino. The 23-year-old looks set to quit the Bundesliga club after his agent hinted earlier this week at a move to England.

Last week, a Brazilian journalist suggested that Firmino would move to Manchester United in a deal worth around £13million. Reports from Germany state that talks have already taken place between Hoffenheim and United.

But Firmino is also wanted by Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers is monitoring Firmino’s situation and is considering a bid of his own. However, all the indications are that if Firmino moves to England it will be to Manchester United.

Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are also interested.

No Manchester United Transfer For Vidal

One player Manchester United won’t be interested in this summer is Arturo Vidal. The Chile international was involved in a drink-drive incident earlier this week in which his Ferrari was written off and his wife suffered a dislocated elbow.

Vidal was strongly linked with interest from Old Trafford last summer, but doubts over his knee prevented them from putting in a bid. Now, The Independent claims that any interest United have in Vidal is at an end following this week’s incident just outside the Chilean capital of Santiago which saw Vidal test positive for alcohol after the smash.

The 28-year-old has also been linked with Real Madrid. Their interest is also at an end.
