Manchester United Transfer News: Witsel, Nani, Mandzukic

Witsel On Manchester United Transfer Radar

Axel Witsel Manchester United transferManchester United are keeping tabs on Zenit St Petersburg’s Belgium international winger Axel Witsel.

The Red Devils have been linked with the 26-year-old on a number of occasions in the past, even before his £29million move from Benfica to Zenit in 2012.

However, reports from Italy claim that Juventus have already opened talks with Witsel’s representatives over a move to Serie A and that Witsel is ready for a new challenge in his career.

Scouts from Old Trafford have watched Witsel in action in recent weeks while Chelsea are also keen. But he is believed to have told Juve he is interested in a move to Turin.

Much depends now on whether Paul Pogba will be sold this summer as Witsel is being seen as a replacement for the France international.

Nani Cool On Benfica Rumours

Manchester United winger Nani has played down rumours of a move to Benfica. The Portugal international spent last season back at his former club, Sporting Lisbon, but reports claim he is wanted by Sporting’s cross-town rivals, something he isn’t interested in considering at the moment.

“I do not want to think about it now,” said Nani. “I’m focused on the national team and the important thing is rest after.”

Wages of £80,000 a week are likely to be a problem for Benfica and Nani isn’t keen on taking a pay cut. However, Turkish side Fenerbahce are also interested in a move. The Turkish Football website claims that former Porto coach Vitor Pereira, currently in charge at Fener, is keen to bring Nani to Istanbul.

Fenerbahce would be in a better position to meet Nani’s wage demands.

The 28-year-old has been told by United that he is free to find a new club.

No United Move For Mandzukic

Manchester United’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic appears to be over.

The Croatia international was linked with interest from Old Trafford earlier this month but he now appears to be on his way to Juventus as the replacement for Carlos Tevez.

Argentina international Tevez had been linked with a move to Atletico but he instead looks set to re-join Boca Juniors in his homeland, the club where he began his career.
