Chelsea lifted the season’s first major trophy when they defeated Tottenham Hotspur, 2-0, to lift the Capital One Cup.
The Premier League leaders took the lead just before half time when Tottenham failed to clear Willian’s free kick and John Terry’s shot was deflected off Harry Kane into the Spurs goal.
Chelsea doubled their advantage 11 minutes into the second half and once again there was a deflection. Diego Costa’s effort from the edge of the area came off Kyle Walker on its way into the goal.
The victory was Chelsea’s first silverware since Jose Mourinho returned to the club in the summer of 2013. It was the Blues’ first success since their Europa League triumph that year and Mourinho’s first success as a manager since he won the La Liga title with Real Madrid in 2012.
It was Chelsea’s fifth League Cup triumph.
