Manchester United winger Nani scored a 30-yard screamer in Sporting Lisbon’s 2-0 victory over Gil Vicente on Sunday and the Portugal international promptly burst into tears.
Nani’s strike was measured at 97km per hour. After he scored he dropped to the ground and was visibly upset when he got back to his feet.
After the match he spoke of the pressure he was under.
“I thought about all the things I have had to deal with in the past. No one knows what I have been through,” said Nani, who is on a season-long loan from Manchester United.
“I have been fighting to be able to give my best for Sporting. It was a good team performance.
“I am satisfied and I was very moved. These things happen to players. From time to time we fall or we are playing with pain and no one knows about it. It’s all part of football.
“Every day I will be working hard. I hope that our next run of games will be even better.”
The result puts Sporting in third place in the Portugese league some nine points behind leaders Benfica.
