The young Argentine has been linked with Premier League clubs Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool with scouts from all three clubs watching Icardi in recent weeks.
But Icardi wants a deal worth €3million a year nett of taxes. That’s the equivalent of £75,000 a week gross. His €3million includes image rights and sponsors are queuing up to be associated with the 22-year-old so it makes sense for Inter to do a deal now.
However, reports from Italy suggest Chelsea – and not Manchester United – are favourites among Premier League clubs to secure Icardi’s signature. Jose Mourinho has been following Icardi for some months and is ready to sanction a bid of between €28-30million (£21-22million).
Real Madrid are also said to be showing an interest. Club president Florentino Perez likes players who bring in good marketing deals as it off-sets part of their wage costs.
Icardi has scored 13 goals in 22 Serie A games this season as Inter head into tonight’s clash with Cagliari.
