Destro, Hamsik In Arsenal Transfer Links

Mattia Destro Arsenal transferArsenal are considering a double-move for Roma striker Mattia Destro and Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik, according to one report.

The Gunners have been linked with Destro for some time after he grew frustrated with a lack of opportunities at the Serie A side. But after hitting 13 goals in 20 Serie A games last season for an average of a goal every 95 minutes, he has just four in 12 this season – an average of one for every 172 minutes play.

Arsenal were linked with a bid of around £15million in the summer and one newspaper report claims that talks have already begun over a January Arsenal transfer move.

However, these same reports suggest that Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell would have to be sold to make way for Destro. Arsene Wenger is looking to bolster his defence in January rather than his front-line.

Campbell has already stated that he wants to remain with Arsenal beyond the January transfer window and he isn’t looking to make a move away from the club either in a loan move or a permanent deal.

Podolski is a more likely exit, though interest from Serie A side Inter Milan has been in a loan move rather than a permanent deal.

Hamsik is under contract at Napoli until 2018 and would represent a stiffer challenge to prise away from the Serie A side.

The 27-year-old Slovakia international is one of the mainstays of the Serie A side and neither club president Aurelio Di Laurentiis or coach Rafa Benitez are likely to readily sanction a move away from the club.
