Liverpool appear to be in the market for a new goalkeeper after Simon Mignolet was dropped ‘indefinitely’ by manager Brendan Rodgers.
Fiorentina goalie Neto is one of the candidates to be brought in during the January transfer window, but Reds fans ought to be careful what they wish for.
Neto was guilty of one of the howlers of the season last night during his side’s match with Cesena. He misjudged a header from defender Stefan Savic and allowed the ball to go past him for a spectacular own goal.
It didn’t affect the result as Fiorentina went on to win, 4-1, and it was an uncharacteristic error from a keeper who is in talks over extending his stay at the Serie A club.
Neto is out of contact at the end of the season and rumours suggest that Liverpool could make a move for the 25-year-old in January. Reports the Reds have offered him a contract worth £125,000 a week. The actual figure is £50,000 a week. Let’s hope – for the sake of Liverpool fans – that he doesn’t remain prone to errors such as this one.
